Terms of Service

Last updated: 04.07.2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern access to and use of the RedactOps website, desktop application, and related services (the "Service"), provided by Nils Marti, an individual sole proprietor based in Switzerland ("RedactOps," "we," "us"), Postfach, 5400 Baden, Switzerland, reachable at legal@redactops.dev. By creating an account, installing the desktop application, or otherwise using the Service, you ("Customer," "you") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you are entering into these Terms on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

1. The Service

RedactOps is a local-first tool that scans text, code, logs, and files on the user's own device to detect and redact secrets and personal data using regular-expression-based detection rules, before that content is shared elsewhere. The Service consists of (a) a desktop application that performs detection and redaction locally, and (b) a web dashboard and backend used for account management, billing, license issuance, and detection-rule distribution. Content processed by the desktop application is not transmitted to our servers; see our Privacy Policy for details of what data is collected.

2. Accounts and eligibility

You must provide accurate registration information and keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. The Service is intended for use by businesses and professionals (including managed service providers and their staff) and is not directed at consumers acting outside a trade, business, or profession.

3. Plans, billing, and cancellation

RedactOps offers Free, Business, and Enterprise plans as described on our pricing page. Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis through Stripe, via Clerk Billing. By subscribing to a paid plan, you authorize us (through our payment processor) to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel. You may cancel at any time; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and we do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods except where required by law.

We may change the fees applicable to future billing periods on at least 30 days' notice before the change takes effect; if you do not accept a change, you may cancel before it applies and the change will not affect your current billing period.

4. License grant and restrictions

Subject to your compliance with these Terms and payment of applicable fees, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the RedactOps desktop application on the number of devices permitted by your plan, solely for your own internal business purposes. You may not, and may not permit others to:

  • reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the application, except to the extent applicable law prohibits this restriction;
  • circumvent or attempt to circumvent license verification or plan limits;
  • resell, sublicense, or provide the Service to third parties on a standalone basis;
  • use the Service to build a competing product.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • violate any applicable law or third party's rights;
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service, other accounts, or our infrastructure;
  • interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service;
  • transmit malware or other harmful code.

6. Your content and responsibility

Because RedactOps processes content locally on your device, you retain full ownership of and responsibility for that content. We do not access, store, or control the material you scan or redact. You are solely responsible for ensuring your use of the Service complies with your own legal, regulatory, and contractual obligations (including obligations owed to your own clients, if you are a managed service provider).

7. Detection accuracy disclaimer

RedactOps uses pattern- and rule-based detection. It is designed to substantially reduce the risk of accidentally exposing secrets and personal data, but it cannot guarantee detection of every possible secret, credential, or piece of personal data in every format, especially content that does not match a built-in or configured detection rule. You remain responsible for reviewing redacted output before sharing it, and for configuring custom detection rules appropriate to your environment. The Service is provided as a risk-reduction tool, not a guarantee of complete or error-free detection.

8. Intellectual property

We retain all right, title, and interest in and to the Service, including the desktop application, detection rule packs we publish, and the website, excluding any custom detection rules you configure. We grant no rights other than those expressly stated in these Terms.

9. Third-party services

The Service relies on third-party providers, including Clerk, Stripe, Convex, Vercel, and Resend, as described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the acts or omissions of these providers except as required by applicable law.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

11. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury, for intent (Absicht) or gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit), or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited under mandatory applicable law (including Art. 100 of the Swiss Code of Obligations).

Subject to the foregoing, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, RedactOps shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or business, arising out of or related to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability arising out of or related to these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold RedactOps harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your misuse of the Service or violation of these Terms.

13. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you materially breach these Terms and do not cure the breach within a reasonable time after notice, or immediately in cases of suspected fraud, abuse, or security risk. You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date and, where appropriate, by direct notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.

15. Notices

Any notice required or permitted under these Terms (including under the Data Processing Addendum) may be given by email — to legal@redactops.dev for notices to RedactOps, and to the email address on your account for notices to you. Email notice is deemed given on the date sent, unless the sender receives a delivery failure notification. A postal address for RedactOps is available at Postfach, 5400 Baden, Switzerland, in addition to this email-notice mechanism.

16. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-law rules and the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The courts of Baden, Canton of Aargau, Switzerland have exclusive jurisdiction, except where mandatory law provides otherwise.

17. General

Assignment. We may assign or transfer these Terms, in whole or in part, to a successor entity (including on incorporation of RedactOps as a company, or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or transfer of assets), on notice to you. You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent.

Severability. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or severed to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.

Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and (where applicable) the Data Processing Addendum, constitute the entire agreement between you and RedactOps regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements on that subject.

Waiver. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.

Force majeure. We are not liable for any delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
